Tobacco Companies Continue to Sell Combustible Tobacco, Despite Claims of Aspiring to Be “Smoke-Free”
The tobacco industry attempts to repair its reputation, claiming that it is working towards a "smoke-free future" or creating "harm reduction" products. In this article, Mehegan et al interrogate claims made by PMI about an "aspirational" target for reducing cigarettes. The authors demonstrate this target is unlikely to be met, and conclude that PMI's project cigarette sales are at odds with the company's purported aspiration to be "smoke-free".
